Godolphin trainers Charlie Appleby and Saeed bin Suroor were responsible for the big winners at the second meeting of the Dubai World Cup Carnival in Meydan.

The UAE 1000 and 2000 Guineas trials were the feature races on the card under the bright floodlights at the Southern Asia-based course, with Wedding Ring and Emirates Flyer claiming the respective prizes.

Wedding Ring, a contender for the QIPCO 1000 Guineas in May, was an impressive one and a quarter-length winner for Appleby and Derby-winning jockey Mickael Barzalona, who both recorded another double in Meydan following Cat O’Mountain’s success the race previously.

Emirates Flyer, a possibility for the QIPCO 2000 Guineas, defeated his rivals under rider Silvestre De Sousa by a half-length, with Safety Check in second providing a Godolphin 1-2 finish.

The Bin Suroor-trained colt finished two lengths behind the highly-rated Kingman in the Solario Stakes at Sandown last season.

Meanwhile, there were also wins for other British-based connections, as Sheikhzayedroad was victorious in the Dubai Duty Free Gold World Cup for David Simcock under Martin Lane and James Doyle rode United Color to win the Dubawi Stakes.

More QIPCO British Champions Series stars are set to feature in the Dubai World Cup’s next meeting on Thursday.
