My Top 5 moments of 2019

20 Dec 2019

First, I’d like to thank all the readers of this blog and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 2019 has flown by, and it’s been a year I will never forget having fulfilled a lifelong ambition of becoming Champion Flat Jockey!

Here’s a countdown of my Top 5 moments from an unforgettable year:

5. Kameko wins the first ever British All Weather Group 1

A very exciting two-year-old and certainly a smart prospect for next season. Andrew Balding has loved him from day one, and it was great to get the victory in the re-scheduled running of the Vertem Futurity Trophy at Newcastle. Let’s see what 2020 brings!

4. Suave Richard rises in Japan

The Japan Cup is a race I’ve been watching for many years, and always fancied winning. I knew Suave Richard was a serious horse as soon as I galloped him. His performance in the big one was very special, and it was the stuff of dreams to land the spoils!

3. Telecaster triumphs at York

Telecaster’s win in the Dante at York really helped kick off my season. Hughie Morrison is a family friend and a huge supporter of mine from the beginning. This is horse to really look forward to, he’s well bred and one to keep an eye on as he goes into his four-year-old season.

2. Veracious so tough on the July course

It was wonderful to triumph in the Cheveley Park colours in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes for Sir Michael Stoute. I was so pleased they let me keep the ride after Royal Ascot, where she was a little keen, and was able to repay them by landing the spoils.

1. Deirdre comes Good in the Naussau

Deirdre ended a 19-year waitΒ  for Japan to win a Group 1 in Britain, and I was delighted to pilot this wonderful horse in the Qatar Nassau Stakes. She’s such a talented filly and to win at the big one at Goodwood was sublime.
