Pearl Secret’s pedigree is all about speed and, perhaps not surprisingly, his seven career wins have all been achieved over 5f.
His sire, Compton Place, enjoyed his finest hour when landing the 1997 edition of the Group 1 Darley July Cup. And his dam, Our Little Secret, never went a yard more than five furlongs in 33 lifetime outings, graduating from humble beginnings in selling company to eventually win a Listed race.
Pearl Secret has been handled with the utmost patience by his trainer, David Barron, who has displayed a very sure touch with sprinters, most notably the 1997 Nunthorpe Stakes winner, Coastal Bluff, during a long and successful training career.
In 2015, he won the Group 2 Temple Stakes and ran some fine races in defeat, including when fourth in the King’s Stand Stakes and when filling the same position in the Prix De l’Abbaye.
Things have not gone right for him in 2016 and, on his latest start at Doncaster in September, he finished lame.
