The only female to have ridden a QIPCO British Champions Series winner since it was initiated in 2011 has been Hayley Turner – successful in the July Cup and Coolmore Nunthorpe that year.

It seems only a matter of time before Josephine Gordon, emulates her.

Among those employed by Godolphin, Gordon came within a couple of lengths of achieving the feat when third on Arabian Hope in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket’s July meeting in 2017 – her best Series result to date.

Gordon became the third female jockey to win the Stobart Champion Apprentice title at the age of 23 but has hit to reach the top the hard way, going 18 months between her first and second career winners.

Stan Moore, the Lambourn trainer, Phil Shea, her agent, her mother and Derby-winning jockey coach John Reid have played vital roles in her development.
